Reading a video survey: from many answers to a few themes

askingIndia

A video survey can bring back more material than anyone can watch in one sitting. The trick is to start from the summary and work down to the videos, not the other way round.

Start with the themes

The overview shows the themes that came up across the survey, how many responses raised each one, and whether people spoke about it positively, neutrally or negatively. Read it first, before you watch anything.

Then follow the split

A theme that many people raise, and mostly negatively, is usually where to look first. Then open the responses and watch them beside their timed transcripts.

Watch before you quote

Themes and transcripts are generated from the recordings. They are a starting point, not a conclusion. Before you put a quote in front of leadership, watch the answer it came from.

Narrow it down

Filter by gender, age or recording date to see whether a theme belongs to one group or to everyone. Rate the answers that say it best, so you can find them again.

Share the evidence

Share an answer through a link that expires after a day, three days or a week, so a recording does not stay reachable after the discussion that needed it.
